However, I thought that after delivering two fun-filled films (PKP & PKP2) & a not-so-hit romance cum satirical drama – ‘Akashvani’ where the latter proved that the guy is no misogynist, this film will be something to look forward to. But who knew that the incessant riots over Padmavati will push this one so forward.
Cut to Sonu Ke Titu…. ! The film picked up from Sonu’s (Kartik Aryan) rant from PKP 2 about girls and it was sort of obvious that to expect a different kind of humor from this will be disappointing. So better gear up for something that can just about entertain.
Cut to the post-break up life of Titu – Enters Sweety (Nushrat Bharucha) – an apparently sweet & sanskari Miss Goody two-shoes, while we think she is fine, Sonu smells a rat. We obviously know why, because how can a woman be all things nice ? And then begins a war which is unconvincing af but entertaining in bits. But let’s not drift ! From here onwards, Sonu ke Titu ki Sweety looks like Luv Ranjan met Karan at a wedding and decided to infuse some comedy in all the Indian wedding stories produced/directed by KJo ever.
#1 Subah Subah
As soon as the rishta gets fixed and mithais get exchanged, the next thing we see is that the trio – the couple with the third wheel is off to Rishikesh ! In the most happening party scene ever seen in Rishikesh, we see them all playing Holi in an exactly same sequence seen in ‘Balam Pichkari’ from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. Remember?
Even though KJo is popular for showing homosexual romance in a funny spirit which is his way of making the society resonate with the concept, he has given us one of the most adorable Bromances, flash back – Aman & Rohit in Kal Ho Na Ho, Rahul & Rohan in K3g, Sam & Kunal in Dostana. Sonu & Titu render a similar vibe except for falling for the same girl (or may be they did).
It’s official that if there is a wedding in a film, no one does it better than Johar. From the red hot saree to Sweety’s Mehendi outfit which seemed inspired from Anushka in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil to even the combination of baby pink and turquoise reminded of the Udaipur tour sequence from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani.
Ranbir Kapoor In YJHD, Ranbir Kapoor in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and now Titu in Sonu ke Titu Ki Sweety. Just one difference, in both the cases, Ranbir walks out of someone else’s wedding and still looks like the protagonist, while Titu ? Ah well.
However, the movie does have its funny moments and since it’s not relatable at all, it’s too hard to take offence.
